A pleasant walk, a pleasant talk (along the briny beach)
My mum still knows the entire Walrus and the Carpenter from Alice through the Looking Glass and What Alice Found There (not quite as catchy a title as Alice in Wonderland)- she had to learn it by heart when she was at school, and somehow remembers it over 40 years later.. she's fond of reciting it when walking along a beach (obvs). Sadly no beach here, but a pleasant walk through Highgate Wood all the same.
And apart from the shoes (Primark) I'm recycling super old clothes- a Topshop top from about 5 years ago and old faded black jeans.
A four day break from work has arrived at a perfect time- on Thursday I learnt that the bosses have definitely decided that sick days don't exist, so if you're ill it's taken out of our measly 20 days a year holiday. If you have flu, it's not really a valid excuse for not coming in, apparently. And what about "statutory" sick pay? Hell no, they say, then everyone will take 30 days a year because obvs we can't be trusted and will use them for hangover days and other follies. To add insult to injury- if you had a paid sick day last year, it'll now be counted as holiday because they're backdating their new policy...
The problem is everyone else's apathy- so far I'm not bothered in that I'm not ill too often and I actually don't care if I have few holiday days as I have no money to be jetting off for long periods of time, but I'm just incensed by the principle of it. But if we all did something (citizen's advice bureau maybe) then surely they'd realise it's illegal?? Oh and the list of blocked websites now include BBC, Ryanair, Easyjet, Wikipedia, Ebay and Amazon. Cos we is kids that will spend all day researching Tudor history instead of working innit..
