Such a stressful weekend! D and his dad have been trying to lay laminate flooring down in the kitchen/living room and have achieved strictly nothing. Apparently the floor is too uneven underneath (old floor boards) but the previous tenant managed it, so it must be possible. So actually moving in is delayed even further as we can't do anything until the floor is down. So a wasted weekend really.

Oh yes, I'm also thinking about handing in my notice at work even though I don't have another job to go to. Everyone is leaving and what with the boringness of it all, no possibility of promotion or pay rise, I think the longer I stay, the worse it probably looks on my CV, especially as it's not the sector I want to be in. And with no chance to look for work (cheeky I know, but it's still kind of annoying that the word "job" is blocked!) and little time in the evenings and weekends.. I've also cancelled a number of interviews I didn't feel I could attend as they were during the day and I'd have to take unpaid leave from work...

Incidentally, my mum took these photos again (apart from the last one), which was rather awkward, yet again..

  1. You look lovely Rachel! I'm loving all the blue with the gorgeous yellow print in your dress. Best wishes with the work situation. I know it's really hard to stay at a job you hate so much. Ugh, I been there before and it's grueling for sure. I used to organize mock interviews with companies at my last job and it's one thing other jobs look at on your resume...they typically don't like to see a period of time unworked in between two jobs, which sometimes makes it a little harder to get hired elsewhere. Just a little advice:) Ultimately it's best to follow your heart though. Have a fantastic week darling! xx Marisa

  2. The lemon dress!! Is it from Primark? I saw it there (or one that looks a lot like it) and I was going to buy it but it was when it was super hot and I didn't want to try it on because Primark Oxford circus was 10 degrees hotter than outside.

About work though, I know that you don't want to take unpaid time off to go to interviews, but surely if it's a money thing (I think I remember you saying in a previous post that you didn't want to lose the money), then it would be much easier to just take time off rather than leave all together, especially if you will be moving into a new flat soonish and you might need a bit of money doing it up and things? I know you really dislike what you're doing now (or at least find it not really that worthwhile with the lack of opportunities), and I know it leaves you with less time to actually job hunt, but you've managed to get interviews so far so the time spent job hunting hasn't been fruitless. Anyway though, I know how difficult it is staying in a job you dislike, especially because you spend a significant proportion of your day there, but that was just my two cents :-)!

  3. If the job that you are doing is making you as unhappy as you say then leaving might give you a real incentive and opportunity to get a job you will be happy doing. Surely happiness counts? I left a job last year with nothing lined up and managed to find something that suited me much better (it can happen!).

  4. Love this outfit on you, so bright and summery-looks great with the denim blouse too.
It would take a lot of courage to leave your job but sometimes you need to do it to move on and it def sounds like that is the case here. Hope things work out for you. xx

  7. I've loved that dress whenever it's cropped up in the blogosphere!

I say leave. Sometimes the added stress of being unemployed gives you the impetus needed to get something better. So long as you reasonably think that something better, or at least no worse, is out there...

  11. awesome dress! i laughed aloud when i realised the print was of lemons (they are lemons right?)

kudos to you for being brave enough to leave. while conventionally it's a bit 'dangerous' to do so without another job lined up, it really sounds like you'll have little trouble finding another one! plus it will probably be more incentive to go out there and find one that you'll love (or at least like slightly more than your current one...)

good luck with that and the moving in! quite looking forward to hearing about it :)

  20. This might be going against general opinion but I'd be very wary of jacking in a job if you don't have anything to move straight onto. The job market isn't particularly healthy and being stuck in the cycle of unemployment isn't a good thing. Plus I think employers will look more favourably on employment on a CV rather periods of unemployment.

Could you use up your holiday allowance for interview days? If you're planning on leaving anyway then you might as well make sure that they're used up.

  21. Darling dress and the jacket on top is very retro. Although it sounds like your job is a total drag, I agree with Alex, her advice is very good.

I love the photos your new camera takes! Is it easy to use? http://thearcenciel.blogspot.com/

  23. i love your vintage dress!!! i've never seen a dress like this in the shops/in thrift shops, so i;ve been looking out for fabric with fruits (cherry, lemon, apple, pear... etc etc) so that i can sew one like this!

  24. I love your dress and the sunnies! I think if you are really unhappy in your job you should leave - something else will always come up.

  25. Wow I love the dress! It looks so cute and summery! On the job front - If you aren't happy where you are and can afford to support yourself while you find another job I'd say go for it! A very brave decision to make though :) xx

  26. I saw your dress in Primark today and was really tempted but I've bought so many summer dresses that I decided I don't need it! Looks lovely on you though. Good luck job hunting. That's what I'm doing at the moment too! xx

  28. Great outfit- I've been looking for a blue shirt like that for ages! As far as the job goes I think freeing yourself up to research jobs you really want as well as being able to go for interviews would be a smart decision. Hope you find something better for you!

  31. I want that dress soooooooooo much, it is seriously amazing!!! I love the gorgeous print and the 50s style cut, it makes me think of something Betty Draper would wear.

I think it might be not a terrible idea to stop working for a little while, providing that you have a bit of money squirrelled away until you get a new job, or have some sort of financial support to hold you up until you get settled in something better. While money is very important, enjoying life is too and there should be a balance of both.

  34. A denim shirt and fruit print are the 2 things I've been craving all summer! You know just how to mix the right pieces and add the right punch of colour via accessories. The lemons look especially gorgeous on a dress. Beautiful! :)

  35. gorgeous outfit! I hate the lack of jobs at the moment, but I've learnt to stick at it (your job), even if you really HATE it (like moi). The plus side is that you get paid every month even if the pay's rubbish. The job situation etc is a bit crap at the mo...!!
