When the delightful Ceri from Style Eyes contacted me about taking part in her ethical fashion competition I jumped at the chance. I grew up in charity shop clothes and wore quite a lot of vintage whilst at uni, but I haven't bought much vintage for a while. So this came as a good reminder to try and think a little more ethically when shopping- like most people I do turn to Primark at times, mainly for a cheap pair of tights/basic top etc. I don't always have the patience for looking through the rails in vintage/charity shops and often altering an item, and ethical brands can be a little pricier (my mum loves People Tree). But it definitely does pay off when you make the effort.
This outfit is a little international: The Boyfriend style coat is from a Berlin flea market for a couple of Euros, the crazy jumper is vintage (Beyond Retro), the belt is from the Angel's costume sale, the pleated culottes are from another vintage sale, the brogues are from a Bristol vintage shop and the beads are from Mexico (made ethically).
Anyone can enter the competition so do check out the details here .
I love the blazer - it really pulls the whole outfit together, though the whole thing is lovely! :-) I must admit I buy more and more from charity shops, I started off just hunting for teacups and other vintage china but these days I'm picking up scarves, shoes, jackets, ties for the fella, you name it!

Lovely outfit as always dearest! I too adore scouring through thrift shops and the likes, but am also guilty of turning to the easy when it comes to the basic items.

Oh my, I really love your jumper...I think my grandmother (when she was a bit younger) had one that was very similar...she was the most stylish lady I ever knew:) Pairing it with the black pleat skirt and brown coat was the perfect way to go and how cool that each piece was from somewhere around the world. Very very pretty. Have a fantastic weekend!!
ReplyDeleteLoving the shoes! I think I have the same ones in black also! They go with anything :) Love the vintage theme!

ReplyDeleteYour outfit is lovely! I especially love the boyfriend style coat, the colour is lovely. I have to admit I don't usually go to charity shops, mainly because I don't know of many near me and also because I've visited a few before but I've never really found anything I truly liked, so I got a bit dishearted. I really should visit again though, you can get some great things there if you're willing to dig around a bit! xo
ReplyDeleteI love your jumper, and the ethical style competition is such a good idea! xx
ReplyDeleteSparkly, sparkly!!! I love the jumper :) I'm off vintage shopping today so will let you know if I get any great items xxx
ReplyDeleteI love this outfit! Especially the jumper :)
ReplyDeleteThis jumper is soooo cool! It looks like something Urban Outfitters would find and resell for $78. I really like your style!
ReplyDeleteLove this outfit! I've also been meaning to partake in the competition but haven't had the chance to :( You do eco-fashion wonderfully, I love your skirt!

What a well travelled outfit! Particularly love the jumper - just the right side of crazy. x
ReplyDeleteI have SO much love for that jumper, and this outfit in general x
ReplyDeleteThis is such an amazing idea! I am so guilty of literally running to Primark everytime I need something. I think it's partly because it's cheap, but also because it's easy, which sounds awful! It definitely shakes you into thinking more about what you're actually purchasing. Love everything you've picked out, you look fantastic! :) x
ReplyDeleteNice outfit and blog!
ReplyDeleteI follow you,and if you want we can follow each other :)

ReplyDeleteThe jumper screams autumn nature...it looks like autumn leaves have fallen in the gold ground! I love this outfit!

I have a jumper really similar to that from beyond retro! same colours but a slightly different pattern. I love it in there, have to limit myself to two trips a year otherwise my wardrobe will explode! xx
ReplyDeleteThis is a great outfit. Good job with the challenge. I really like the crazy sweater and the pretty pleated skirt.
ReplyDeleteGreat outfit!
ReplyDeleteWould you take a peak and follow my blog?

I wish I more luck in chairty shops. I'm awful at sewing and altering clothes so I tend not to buy much unless it's the right measurements. I really like that pleasted skirt, it's so pretty.
ReplyDeleteGlad you're feeling a bit cheerier (is that a word?! :P) also! :)
Just found your blog, it's great! I love that jumper and majorly LOVE LOVE LOVE the jacket - can't believe you got it for so cheap! Good luck in the competition xx

I've seen a couple of bloggers doing this and really like the idea behind it... I'm certainly guilty of not always dressing ethically, so it's a timeless (and chic) reminder!
ReplyDeleteI love that sweater SO much!
ReplyDeleteI wasn't always into thrifting and I feel so stupid it didn't occur to me earlier that's it's a great creative and ecological way to dress.
Have a good week dear!
Virginie ♥
Love this! It is the perfect combination of Autumn and chic. And yes to ethical dressing. This is the main reason I buy vintage and thrift- I don't want to support sweat shop labor.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great post and gorgeous outfit! Remember we were chatting about how vintage shopping can be a bit of a hassle but it definitley pays off. Your jumper is gorgeous and you wouldn't find anything like it on the high street. Plus, it always a lot more interesting when your clothes come from all over the place - not just Topshop! xx
ReplyDeleteThat coat looks of so warm...good luck in the competition!
ReplyDeleteEmily x
So mucch my type of style, ahhhhhhhhhhhh. The jumper in wonderful.
ReplyDelete99´9% of my clothes come from second- hand markets or charity shops, yeahhhhhhhh

Great ethical outfit and gloriously fun jumper - does it make you feel like smiling when you wear it? I love my rare visits to Beyond Retro (last time there I bought a red and white polka dot 70s jump suit that makes me look like a stretched Mini Mouse).
