Dress: tba//Sweater: H&M//Coat: New Look//Shoes: Topshop//Bag: Primark

I haven't blogged in five days, but it feels like a lot longer. I've been through all sorts of emotions this week, you know how you can feel really low, and then suddenly snap out of it? Thursday I was supposed to go for drinks with ex-colleagues but really couldn't face it. I don't think many people went anyway (flaky bunch) but still. Not knowing what I want to do is also hard. I'm getting stressed because I'm doing so many bits and pieces (freelance for my old work correcting and writing articles, one day at the Casa on reception, two days at Refugee Action and then continuously working on the cultural magazine Ventana Latina) and maybe I'm not doing any of them well enough. And I'm not really concentrating on getting a bloody job. I end up going round in circles.

Anyway. I hadn't worn this TBA dress in a while- it's probably one of my most expensive items of clothing- but I thought I could get away with wearing such a summery number in Winter (although it's still so darn mild out). We went to check out the Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize at the National Portrait Gallery. I generally find some of the top 3 prizes quite disappointing, but what do I know? I love portrait exhibitions.

  8. Love this outfit, preppy chic! I know how you feel, it's so hard trying to figure out what you want to do but still continuing to live your life at the same time... it's especially hard when you're doing lots of different little things all at once. Hope it all works out for you soon x

  9. Love this, your hair i making me very envious. Layering summer dresses with knits is the only wear I get out of them after our non-summer... That TBA piece is lovely, although I'm not share they've ever made a dress I don't like...

  10. I love your hair like this! Remind me to ask how you do this?! Outfit is great too, the dress is gorgeous but I love all the layering and your shoes are perfect.
The portrait gallery is one of my favourite hideouts in London, when I feel sad I just go and stare at that giant painting of Paul McCartney.
I hope you feel better about things soon, feel free to unload to me on Tuesday ( looking forward to it!!!) xx

  20. Gorgeous outfit! :) Love the way you styled the leopard coat with the sweater and the dress! And I know just how you feel! I got invited to a birthday dinner once but then I realized that the birthday girl was friends with an ex-friend of mine.... awkward and very tense dinner I'll say. Hope everything goes well with you! :) I think a great way to de-stress is just to watch a favorite TV show or film (mine is Gossip Girl!), eat yummy comfort food or just online browse... retail therapy hehe!

  21. The picture of the national gallery is beautiful, and so is your hair. i really wish i could do the milkmaid braids but my hair is both too long and heavy :(

Anyway, I really hope things will sort itself out soon; you must feel like you're being spread thin? Perhaps you really just need to sit down and ask yourself honestly what YOU want, and everything should follow on from that. Sending you my best wishes! :)

  29. Oh, I LOVE your hair dearest! I also try to incorporate my summer and spring dresses into winter, I just love them far too much to pack away for the cold months. I usually pair them with warm knit tights and sweaters, seems to do the trick :)

I understand the feeling of not knowing what to do. Why, I've changed my career path fifty billion times in the last two years haha (talk about flaky). But I truly feel as though you will do excellent in all that you pursue, you really are a remarkable girl dearest, I know it's hard to see those things in ourselves. I think it's fantastic that you are pursuing an eclectic array of activities, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

Remember that you are wonderful sweet swan.

  30. You'll figure things out. This time of year can make everything seem 9345743953789 times more stressful. If it makes you feel any better, I lost out on an eBay bid on a coat that looks just like yours and you own it. I'm sure that didn't make you feel better.

Not knowing exactly what our career path is can be the most stressful thing ever! Even with a well going career, I find myself doubting and wondering if I'm at the right place in the world and all... hugh! Let's hope we find peace in that aspect of our lives soon!

  52. Hi Rachel,

Thank you for the kind comments on my blog, I've taken a look through yours and it's lovely, so I will be following you!

I love the leopard coat in your photos further down the post, Im always partial to abit of leopard, in fact the top I'm wearing right now is leopard print.

Don't get too despondent about where you feel you should be, I've been wondering for years what should I really be doing right now and I'm still not in a job that is me, if you get what I mean. I think there are loads of us that are like that out there. Keep smiling!

  56. Your blouse looks so delicate. So pretty. I'm on the look out for a skirt in that very colour! Grety suits it well.

I feel at a loose end too, not sure what to do after my degree and I've never felt so scared in my life. You're doing a lot and you should be proud of yourself for dedicating your time to some of them, such as being a volunteer! You will get there. I've tried to think more on the posistive side lately as I'm such a pessimist and the better the outlook on life you have the better your day seems to go! A smile can instantly cheer you up I find. It's also just waiting for that opportunity to come along to grab it. Like I mentioned you will get there, the more of you work at it the more experience you've gained so everything you're doing at the moment will not go to waste.

Hope you feel less stressed soon, I know it's hard to brush off. Have a cuppa and put your feet up! :) xx
